Polypropylene Production

Verdene™ Technology

BIO-BASED POLYMERS AND PETROCHEMICALS

Verdene™ Technology

Lummus’ Verdene™ technology is a suite of process technologies for petrochemical producers and project developers that is based on bio-ethanol feedstock to produce bio-based polymers and petrochemicals. The Verdene technologies converts renewable ethanol into renewable polymer products using commercially proven technology only available from Lummus Technology. It is a sustainable solution that also sequesters carbon dioxide through biomass into a durable petrochemical product application. Once it’s reached its life expectancy, it can be mechanically or chemically recycled, and reused in various ways.

Examples include Verdene polyproplene, where the bio-ethanol is converted to bio-propylene using the Lummus Dimer/OCT (metathesis) technology and the bio-propylene (and bio-ethylene as comonomer) is subsequently used to produce bio-based polypropylene in the Novolen PP process.

Additional examples include:
  • Verdene™ LDPE/EVA, where the bio-ethylene is converted to bio-polyethylene, uses the Versalis LDPE/EVA technology as available through Lummus Technology
