Styrenics / Phenolics / Carbonates Production

Lummus Technology offers the reliable Lummus Technology/UOP EBOne™ ethylbenzene (EB) and "Classic" styrene monomer (SM) technologies. The fixed-bed, liquid-phase EBOne process uses a zeolite catalyst that provides high yields and high selectivity, practically eliminating xylene formation (an impurity that reduces SM quality downstream). The "Classic" SM process features a deep vacuum EB dehydrogenation reaction system.

Lummus Technology offers the proven and innovative Versalis/Lummus Technology technologies for the production of cumene and phenol. The cumene process uses Versalis' highly active, selective, and robust PBE-1 zeolite catalyst for the alkylation of benzene with propylene to produce high purity cumene.

The phenol process is based on the oxidation of cumene to cumene hydroperoxide and its subsequent decomposition to phenol and acetone, which offers greater safety, higher yields and better operability than competing processes.

Lummus Technology offers the phosgene-free Versalis/Lummus Technology processes for the production of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) and diphenyl carbonate (DPC). DMC is an intermediate used in polycarbonates (via DPC), lubricants, solvents, fuel additives, and other products. DPC is used to make polycarbonates.

Phenol/Acetone

The Versalis/Lummus Technology phenol process utilizes advanced technology for the air oxidation of cumene followed by acid-catalyzed decomposition to phenol and acetone. This state-of-the-art technology minimizes heavy by-product formation and maximizes conversion, which improves overall yield while providing smooth, reliable and safe operation.
