As Chief Business Officer, Rutger Theunissen leads the strategic direction and performance of the company’s global businesses focused on maximizing the operational performance of customer assets.
Appointed to this role in 2022, Rutger oversees Lummus’ heat transfer, modular equipment, water and wastewater, lifecycle services, and consulting businesses. Under his leadership, these areas are executing a bold growth strategy, expanding the company’s proprietary equipment portfolio, commercializing breakthrough technologies such as process electrification, PFAS destruction, and plastic pyrolysis, and enhancing Lummus’ consulting capabilities in the energy transition space.
Previously, Rutger led Lummus’ business focused on designing and supplying ethylene furnaces, high-performance heat exchangers, and specialized equipment for the downstream processing industry.
Rutger brings nearly 30 years of industry experience, where he held management roles of increasing responsibility and importance. He holds a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and a master’s degree in business administration from INSEAD Business School in France.
